The Brush Pile 28 x 50 in. |
After months of the dreary, frigid winter in Iowa, a morning would come when there was a different feel and smell
to the air, and even though it was still cold out you just knew that winter was on its way out. The Brush Pile
is a tribute to those spring days when the ground has a squishy bounce, the air smells impossibly clean
and the green manages to push its way through the mat of last year's thatch.

Bounty 20 x 36 in. |
This painting was in response to a themed show, the ideas for which I'm generally not all that good at coming up
with. The theme was the USA, Americana, nostalgia, freedom, etc. My submission form read: " When I think
of America, I thnk of the land of plenty. Having grown up in Iowa, plenty means corn." Really, corn is just
ridiculously fun to paint, and these stalks dance!

This was one of the first breathtaking views I saw after having moved to Tennessee.

Tarpon Bay 13 x 22 in. |
The pelicans were reduced to simplistic shapes due to the brightness of the day. This seriously
irritated the part of me that screams for detail, but there was freedom in painting without it.

When this was completed I was strongly reminded of the woods where the Tinman was found.
