| This painting is a labor of love. I absolutely satisfied my need to cram everything I've ever seen in every backyard that I've ever had and hopefully told a tale of fascination and danger in the process. There's even a praying mantis that became absorbed by the tree for compositional reasons. It's still there because I really liked it, but its now got a barky exterior. |

| We had gone hiking in a place called the Pocket Wilderness shortly after we moved to Tennessee. I was down by the water and came across this bush (?) still clinging to the dirt between the rocks. It was water and weather worn, yet still it hung on. |
